We are the Scades.

Our family motto is "Good Friends, Good Food, and Good Drinks". We also believe that all families deserve to be photographed and photographed often. Through a combination of portraiture, lifestyle and documentary family photography we aim to capture the essence of what makes you a family.

For over 35 years, Scade Photography has been documenting important moments for families in and around Edmonton. We are available for destination weddings and destination portraits.

Our Story

Let us introduce ourselves. We are Shaun and Stephanie Scade. We are a husband and wife team. We have been married for 12 years and have three wonderfully crazy children; Neko, Ari and Arlo. As much as we love photography, these three are the most important parts of our lives. We love to do everything as a family

Adventures are simply better when you have someone to share them with.

Shaun

self-proclaimed food, music and tech nerd

Hey there! We are more than just our occupation. First and foremost, I am a husband and a father. But beyond my family, I am a consumer of all things food. I am always on the hunt for a new restaurant, the perfect burger, or something I have never tried before. I am a bit of a Bourbon snob and I love me some Scotch. Tea is my thing, but I have taught myself to like Americanos very recently.

I am constantly reading books and graphic novels, and I am a fan of the audiobook. Music is one of my biggest passions; creating playlists and researching the next big thing always brings a smile to my face. I also teach Photographic Technology full-time at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) helping train the next generation of photographers.

Gord

Founder, Grandfather, and Live music AFICIONADO

I started Scade Photography nearly 40 years ago now. A lot has changed in the past 4 decades, but the true essence of photography remains. You can usually find me at your local live music establishment enjoying a beverage and some tunes. Blues, open mic nights, jam sessions, house concerts, I love them all. I am Scotch guy, but not too peaty. When I am at home, the Food Network or the Golf Channel are always on. I enjoy hosting small dinner parties, and large social gatherings. And I am always looking for a round of golf, even when its snowing outside I have my weekly indoor round.

I have 3 children and 5 grandchildren so family is huge for me. I take every opportunity I can to see Neko, Ari, Daelen, Arlo and Cillian.

Steph

Bread Making supermom and yoga enthusiast

I am 100% one of those ‘do all the things’ type of people. Since becoming a momma, I’ve discovered that it is harder to 'do all the things' though. It requires extra focus to make things happen. But it's often worth the work.

Recently I discovered the joy of baking sourdough bread. It allows me to play in the kitchen without being 100% precise with the measurements. It has also given me a chance to bring people together with some bread and butter. I also have taken to yoga and I love the way it helps me focus in the mornings. The little ones love to help out and get in the way, but they have been amazing little teachers for me in every sense of the word. I hope to take my yoga a bit further and practice some more meditation as well.

Being creative is a part of almost everything we do together as a family. Whether it's cooking, playing, crafting, or photographing. I never really realized how important that was to me until I’d met Shaun. I'm thankful every day we have each other on this journey.

Weddings

So many great things have started out with Weddings. Shaun photographed his first wedding over 15 years ago with his father Gord. Who had already been photographing weddings for 20 years. We are now photographing multiple second generation weddings each year.

We also happened to meet at a mutual friend’s wedding in 2008 and our own wedding in 2010 was a wonderful experience and the beginning of our family.

We love wedding portraits. Beautiful outfits and happy couples. But what we love the most about weddings are the emotions and the authentic moments that happen throughout the day. We love documenting the day as it happens and telling the story of your wedding as it unfolds.

Love Stories

We love the emotions and the stories that evolve on a wedding day. We loved our wedding and we have several images from our wedding on our walls.

However, in our room, we have a large canvas print of an image of the two of us from a couple's session that we had done in Iceland. As important as our wedding was, we love to wake up to see this image of us. It reminds us of how we comfort each other and our everyday love. It helps strengthen us as a couple, and as parents.

Whether it be an engagement session, honeymoon session, anniversary session, or a just-because-we-love-each-other session, these images celebrate your relationship and honour your connection at that point in time.

Life Stories

For us, family is more than just a single beautiful portrait. Sure, those are important, and we treasure those of our family. However, some of our favourite photographs are those that document the everyday instances in our lives.

Baking bread and making dinner together as a family. Reading stories to our children and playing make believe games on the floor. Kicking a soccer ball or flying down the slide at the park.

We feel it is important to incorporate a bit of both styles into our portraiture. Some modern, yet classically based portraiture and some documentary family photography.

Our maternity, newborn, children's and family portrait sessions all feature some elements of documentary photography, but we encourage you to try a full documentary family session for a completely authentic representation of your family story.
